Students meet individually with a trained volunteer tutor for weekly instruction. Most pairs focus on English literacy, but tutors also provide tailored instruction to fit students’ individual goals, from studying for citizenship or GED exams, to preparing for a job interview or medical appointment.
Our Community Connection Center is a welcoming space for everyone where we host educational events, like our tutor training and support meetings; provide drop-in assistance for students on specific needs; and offer an informal gathering place for English conversation— all designed to bring together the people of
Grand Island.
Students work through self-paced curriculum on a variety of language software programs. Students are able to study English literacy in addition to receiving assistance on achieving personal goals, such as career discoveries, citizenship, and more.
Teachers provide literacy instruction in a group setting at a variety of times and instructional levels. Our group classes primarily focus on English literacy, but include additional educational curricula on financial literacy, health literacy, citizenship, and more.
